Havana Tonka by Byredo: The Courtyard Keeps Its Warmth

The RichandLuxe Journal · October 15, 2026

The tiles have begun to cool, but the courtyard still holds the day’s warmth. A shutter stands open. Somewhere beyond the arch, the evening has found its own pace. Havana Tonka by Byredo gives today’s fragrance portrait an amber center and a reason to linger.

We picture faded teal plaster, a small table and the last light caught in a gold cap. This is our imagined setting for Byredo’s Havana-inspired composition: an intimate space where color and warmth remain after daylight has moved on.

Roasted tonka at the center

Havana Tonka is an extrait de parfum in Byredo’s Night Veils collection. The house places roasted tonka at its center, exploring the material alongside rum and tobacco leaves in a fragrance inspired by Havana after dark.

The published opening combines bergamot, rum, pink peppercorn and crème brûlée. Tobacco leaves, violet, cashmere woods and white suede form the heart. Roasted tonka bean absolute joins patchouli, benzoin and skin musks in the base.

It is a generous palette, with several points of contrast to follow. The edible association of crème brûlée sits beside the drier image of a tobacco leaf. Citrus and pepper suggest another kind of detail, while suede and woods offer a different language of texture. Those relationships give us more to consider than sweetness alone.

Warmth has more than one color

In our visual reading, the rum note becomes a glint of amber, the roasted tonka a deeper brown. Violet suggests a cooler shade tucked into the middle, like the wall of a courtyard once the sun has left it. These are associations with the stated notes, rather than a promise of how the fragrance will unfold for everyone.

Readers drawn to amber fragrances may find this an inviting direction when tobacco, soft materials and a gourmand accent are part of the attraction. Let your own attention choose the route through it: the brightness at the opening, the tobacco theme, or the warmer foundation.

We imagine Havana Tonka with a dinner that turns into conversation, a jacket left over the back of a chair, an evening with no need to hurry the final chapter. Its place in a wardrobe begins with that personal association—the occasion you want it to accompany.

A little gold in the evening

The bottle makes its own contribution to the scene. Clear glass reveals the amber color, a substantial base catches the light, and the domed gold cap supplies a rounded highlight above the clean white label. Set against teal and patterned tile, the complete silhouette becomes the still point in the courtyard.

For another Night Veils perspective, our Suede Osmanthus portrait follows a different relationship between flower and texture. Continue through the Journal archive when the next detail catches your eye.

The courtyard is quieter now. The warmth is still there.
