Metal Lavender by Matière Première: An Edge of Morning
Lavender, titanium and dawn light. A close look at Metal Lavender by Matière Première and its contrast of aromatic clarity and softer floral texture.

THE RICHANDLUXE JOURNAL · OCTOBER 30, 2026
A lavender stem laid against titanium changes the way both materials look. The metal makes the flower seem more delicate; the flower reveals a trace of violet in the silver. That small exchange is our starting point for Metal Lavender by Matière Première.
Lavender carries a wealth of associations. We recognise it so quickly that we can stop paying attention. This composition offers a reason to look again, with a title that puts a familiar botanical material beside something cool, architectural and unexpected.
Where the idea began
On its official presentation, Matière Première traces the concept to Aurélien Guichard’s time around distillation facilities in Provence. The metal, concrete, light and scale of those spaces informed his approach. It is a compelling setting for a lavender fragrance: the place where a growing plant becomes a perfumery material.
The eau de parfum centres on organic lavandin from Grasse, contrasted with a softer, floral organic lavender from Haute Provence. The house describes the lavandin’s character as vibrant and metallic. Musks and Cashmeran amplify the composition around that central contrast.
Two materials, two directions
The distinction between lavender and lavandin matters here. They share a recognisable aromatic language, yet their roles in this composition point in different directions. One introduces the idea of a clear, bright edge; the other offers a gentler floral counterpoint.
For a first encounter, we would set aside the expectation of a conventional lavender perfume and concentrate on that relationship. Notice whether the aromatic aspect seems sharply outlined or more rounded on your skin. Then return to it as the composition develops. There is no need to find every material individually; attention to a single contrast can be just as revealing.
Our photograph follows the same thought through texture. Honed stone absorbs light, titanium redirects it, and clear glass lets it pass through. A muted violet reflection is enough to join them. The setting is an editorial interpretation of the fragrance’s material vocabulary.
A different route into aromatic perfumery
Metal Lavender is an interesting point of entry for someone who already knows lavender and wants to reconsider it. The appeal of this idea is its focus: a small group of materials gives us several things to examine without requiring an elaborate story.
