Purple Love by M. Micallef: A Madeleine Beside a Bouquet

THE RICHANDLUXE JOURNAL · NOVEMBER 3, 2026

A madeleine on porcelain, a few almonds, a blossom resting beside the plate. There is a particular pleasure in setting something sweet beside something delicate. Purple Love by M. Micallef invites us to consider that arrangement in fragrance: the familiarity of a small indulgence, given a floral setting.

For today’s portrait, we imagine the pause before guests arrive. The table is ready, daylight still reaches the stone, and a length of purple silk catches the last warmth of the room. The bottle stands at the centre, a small object with enough presence to make the scene feel complete.

A place for flowers at the table

Part of the Secrets of Love collection, Purple Love is composed by David Chieze. Its opening pairs almond with bergamot and pink pepper. The heart brings together madeleine and chocolate with rose, orange blossom and ylang-ylang; vanilla and musk form the base.

That meeting of pastry and petals gives us the most interesting way into the composition. Think about almond’s connection to confectionery, then notice how a floral association changes the picture. Orange blossom can make us think of both a garden and a kitchen. Rose suggests another kind of generosity, while the madeleine brings the scale back to something small and personal.

The pleasure of a small detail

We often approach gourmand fragrances by asking which dessert they recall. With Purple Love, we would also ask what surrounds that impression. Do the flowers draw your attention first? Does almond make the composition feel more textured? Does the vanilla become the part you return to?

These are invitations to notice, rather than a script for what you must smell. Allow a little time between first application and a second impression. The facet that seems most obvious at the beginning may share the scene differently later. A brief note to yourself can be more useful than trying to identify every ingredient.

A jewel in purple and gold

The house presents Purple Love as a limited edition, with an ornate purple-and-gold bottle that carries its jewellery-inspired aesthetic. Our accompanying still life gives that object space: pale stone beneath it, soft fabric behind it, and a few restrained references to the composition.

The atmosphere is our editorial interpretation. We would pair it with a dinner at home where the details matter—a favourite plate, linen that feels good in the hand, flowers placed low enough to see across the table. Purple Love suggests a similar pleasure in choosing one expressive finishing touch.
