A REMARKABLE JOURNEY

Edmond Roudnitska — A Private Composition, a Lasting Legacy

Some fragrances begin as a public statement; others originate in a deeply personal gesture. Le Parfum de Thérèse belongs to the latter tradition, offering an intimate introduction to Edmond Roudnitska's artistry through a composition he created for his wife.

The Search for a Clear Idea

Roudnitska's background in chemistry and his study of aromatic materials informed a disciplined approach to perfume. His work explored how a clear olfactory idea could emerge from carefully judged relationships rather than an accumulation of effects. That attention to structure remains a useful way of approaching his compositions.

A Fragrance with a Personal History

Created during the 1950s and later brought to a wider audience by Editions de Parfums Frédéric Malle, Le Parfum de Thérèse combines luminous fruit with flowers and a darker, leathery foundation. Melon and plum introduce contrasting shades of freshness and richness around rose and jasmine. Our impression is of a perfume whose emotional character comes from the balance between these elements: neither simply a fruit composition nor a conventional floral bouquet, but a distinctly individual expression.
