THE ART OF PERFUMERY
The Many Textures of Sweetness
A REMARKABLE JOURNEY
Sweetness in fragrance can be creamy, resinous, fruity or quietly woody. Corinne Cachen's compositions offer a thoughtful way to explore these differences, revealing that a gourmand impression depends as much on texture and balance as on a recognizable edible association.
Affinessence describes Cachen's affinity for gourmand perfumery through a family connection to pastry-making: her grandfather was a pastry chef. For Vanille Benjoin, the house sought her interpretation of vanilla and benzoin, giving this warm pair of materials the space to become a complete olfactory subject.
Vanille Benjoin brings Tahitian and Bourbon vanilla together with benzoin from Laos. Bon Parfumeur's 203 takes a brighter route, setting raspberry and blackberry against vanilla. The same house's 402 moves toward caramel and sandalwood, offering a more creamy, wooded expression. Our selection follows the changing role of sweetness across these compositions: sometimes the center of the picture, sometimes a softening contrast, and sometimes the bridge between fruit and warm woods.
