A REMARKABLE JOURNEY

Ellen Covey — An Orchid Grower's Olfactory Imagination

For Ellen Covey, an interest in fragrance developed alongside two seemingly different worlds: scientific research and the cultivation of orchids. Her fascination with the distinctive scents of living flowers became a path toward an independent creative practice.

From Science to Botanical Perfumery

Covey is a researcher and educator whose work has included the study of sensory systems. She also founded Olympic Orchids Artisan Perfumes, drawing on her direct experience with orchids and other botanical materials. Her compositions have been recognized within independent perfumery, including the award-winning Woodcut.

An Independent Creative Signature

Her original Bat composition for Zoologist is an especially distinctive example of how an animal's habitat can become a fragrance concept. That earlier version was subsequently released independently as Night Flyer by Olympic Orchids. Her interest in unusual scent environments invites exploration beyond a conventional flower or woods classification.

The Squid listing previously assigned to this collection is credited by Zoologist to Céline Barel, not Covey, and is therefore deliberately excluded from the selection here. Only verified, carried compositions will be featured.
